Same, same - but different

One colour, various shades, hues and tones. Feeling inspired by international & Aussie runways, we at Basal spent the morning sourcing outfits based on one colour palette.
From Rihanna style magenta, to nudes and whites - wearing one colour does not mean that it all has to be within the same shade or texture. Mixing it up and having contrasting textures only adds to the look, the way in which a different colour may have added to a previous ensemble.
Incorporate all your nude shades, take some off white and pair it with classic white, mix your pinks and even denim shades to add depth to a classic day or night outfit.

May- when the weather gets colder and your skin gets dryer

As the colder seasons approach, it is only natural that  skin gets flaky, lips are dry and bed is your new Friday night routine.
Here are a few of my favourite things to get me through these tough, yet snuggle weather, times. From skin regimes to candles that will make your house feel like a summers day, these products are the ultimate winter grabs.

My picks:

Bassike candles
With scents such as magnolia, seaside bonfire & cucumber, ginger & mint (fave), these candles are the ultimate scent pick me up for any space. Perfect for the bedroom or the office, you will feel energised and at peace in no time.

Comme Des Garcons 2
With hints of patchouli, amber, incense and vetiver, this scent is the ultimate winter buy. A pick of mine for years, CDG 2 embodies exotic notes that are sure to add to any outfit and personality.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream
This classic cream not only proves to be the ultimate skin re-hydrator, but it also acts as the balmiest of balms for day to day use. Personally, I use my 8 hour cream for chapped lips and dry skin before bed, as well as use excess on my eyelids and brows during the day. Creates a dewy complexion and radiance!

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque
Being a recent purchase, I personally cannot say that I have used this product enough to see impeccible results - yet. However, after one week worth of using, my skin has never felt softer! Applied as a masque over night, this product allows you to wake up with the softest, clear skin. I highly recommend giving this a go, as the damage that winter can leave on the skin can result in high levels of dryness and flakiness.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
One of my favourite highlighters in the biz! I chuck this on in the mornings (on top of my 8 hour cream) to create the ultimate, dewy coverage under the eyes, above the lip and above the brow. Available in an array of colours and shades, this product is one that every gal should have in her bag at all times. The greatest complexion pick me up!

When the beat drops

[bey-suh l, -zuh l]

adjective of, at, or forming the base.
forming a basis; fundamental; basic.

Welcome to Basal. A blog dedicated to the Australian female, or male, who enjoys the simplicity of life. Whether it be the fundamentals of fashion, or the fundamentals of travel & lifestyle, Basal is here to break it down for you.

Being a born and bred Melbournian, who has lived in Bondi (notice I say Bondi and not Sydney - Bondi is just a place of its own), nothing feels more Australian than our very own Elle Macpherson. She embodies Australia, her aura and spirit being reflective of the ocean, sun and sand. Hence why she is our very own opening image. She encapsulates what Basal is all about - natural beauty, classic fashion and the upmost sophistication.

International readers, i hope that Basal can give you a glimpse of the Aussie lifestyle through our posts and images.

Enjoy and please send in any comments, reviews or ideas for future posts.

Peace, love & kindness.
